The Oakland Raiders made an announcement Monday, saying that they have hired longtime NFL defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast as an assistant without declaring what role the new assistant would play for the team.
Pendergast had spent the previous five years as defensive coordinator in the Arizona Cardinals and helped the team make it to the Super Bowl a year ago. Before walking with the Cardinals, he had worked as an assistant with the Houston Oilers, Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns. He also used to work with the Kansas City Chiefs as a defensive coordinator but was let go last month.
Since the 2009 regular season ended last month, the Raiders have hired three assistants, including Pendergast, offensive coordinator Hue Jackson and defensive line coach Mike Waufle. But by so far, they have not made it clear that if head coach Tom Cable will continue coaching the players wearing Raiders jerseys. There are actually two questions: will Cable return to the Raiders next season to have a job? Or will he be give another job in Oakland?

Steelers are in danger of missing playoffs after being defeated by Raiders
When it was one minute and fifty-six seconds before the end of the game, the Pittsburgh Steelers were still 24-20 ahead of the Oakland Raiders, but when it came to nine seconds before the end, Louis Murphy caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Bruce Gradkowksi, sealing the game with Raiders 27-24 win over the Steelers together with Raiders’ three late touchdowns.
The Steelers are now 6-6 after losing four consecutive games and are in danger of missing the playoffs. They have lost games to a team we did not expect they could be defeated by for twice, first time by the Kansas City Chiefs, then the Raiders, and have fallen three games behind the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC North.
And Ben Roethlisberger, wearing back his Steelers jersey after sitting out a game with a concussion, completed 18 of 24 for 278 yards, two TDs and an interception thrown into the end zone late in the first half. What we can expect for next games? None of the Browns, the Packers, the Ravens and the Dolphins is a hard-to-win team, but after being beaten by of the NFL’s worst teams in the last three weeks, the Steelers are not very convincing in keeping unbeaten while playing against each of the four teams.

Will Cable be fired by Raiders?
Recently no other coach has caused as many reports and rumors as the Oakland Raiders Coach Tom Cable. Too many, actually, and someone began to doubt if the team owner Al Davis would fire the coach at the end of the year.
After assistant coach Randy Hanson alleged that Cable threw a punch in august to him and broke his jaw, Cable did not receive any charge and judge said that witnesses’ testimony did not support Hanson’s allegation. But troubles seemed not ready to end.
Two different women related to the coach told media that Cable used to throw punch to them, too. These allegations caused the NFL to investigate into the cases and they plan to get Cable into counseling for his physical behavior. And all Raiders players and staff will cooperate with the team in the investigation.

Raiders Coach Cable may face league punishment for alleged assault
As police are investigating the case of Oakland Raiders Coach Tom Cable allegedly assaulting an assistant coach, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday that Cable could be punished by the league if he is charged with any crimes, because workplace violence is specifically identified in the league’s personal conduct policy.
According to Goodell, legal and criminal process is going on within the league for some period of time and there will be a report on the Napa, Calif., police investigation in the next few weeks. He also said that Cable will be disciplined still if he is confirmed to break the league’s conduct rules even if no criminal charges is brought against him.

NFL is monitoring Tom Cable case as authorities investigate allegations
Recently there have been a lot of reports about the Oakland Raiders coach Tom Cable, who allegedly assaulted one of his assistants. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said that the league is watching as authorities investigate the case.
“We’re closely monitoring the case and will continue to monitor the case. We like to make sure we understand what all the facts are before we comment on it,” Goodell said Tuesday during an NFL Play 60 event in New Jersey. When the appropriate time comes, we will speak to the coach. The personal conduct rule applies to everyone in the NFL, from the commissioner to the players and including coaches. This is something we take very seriously.”

Hanson initially did not tell police who attacked him and only said it was a member of the Raiders coaching staff. However, his attorney, John McGuinn, told NFL.com last week that Hanson told police that Cable was the coach who attacked him.
