Two days after he ended holdout with a four-year, $21 million contract being signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, rookie right tackle could have to miss more chances of playing a real game in Bengals jersey with his left foot being broken during practice.
It was a small fracture in the foot he got during a non-contact drill in his third workout since signing his deal. His chance f winning the starting job this season had already become smaller during a long contract impasse that forced him to miss training camp and the first three preseason games. The injury just became another major setback and could prevent him from playing in the Bengals’ final preseason game Thursday against Indianapolis.
The second-year lineman Anthony Collins will likely take his job at right tackle. At least the fourth-round draft pick last year did much more work and has more experience than Smith, stating six games at right tackle before leaving the field with injuries.
